Project Overview
The Westchester Community College Expansion in Mt. Vernon, New York, encompassed a 30,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art educational facility integrated with 40 residential units designed for faculty and student housing. The project’s goal was to create a multi-purpose campus environment that combined academic, living, and community spaces in a single unified development.
The educational portion included modern classrooms, administrative offices, and collaborative learning spaces, all designed to meet LEED Silver sustainability standards. The residential wing featured multi-story apartments with reinforced masonry cores, providing long-term durability and energy efficiency suitable for the Northeast climate.

Magnum’s Role & Scope of Work
As a Tier 1 structural subcontractor, Magnum Construction Services was responsible for the complete structural shell, encompassing foundations, reinforced masonry walls, and light-gauge steel framing.
Our $4.8 million scope included:

• Concrete foundations and slabs designed for high load-bearing capacity and vibration control.

• CMU masonry systems forming structural and fire-rated partitions.

• Light-gauge steel framing for both interior and exterior walls, integrating directly with mechanical and envelope trades.

• Elevator and stair cores constructed from reinforced concrete for life-safety and rigidity.

Execution & Quality Control
The project was executed under strict state and institutional standards, including ADA accessibility and energy-efficiency compliance. Magnum implemented its ISO 9001 and ISO 45001–aligned systems throughout the build, coordinating with the project’s architectural and engineering teams to maintain exacting tolerances.

Daily inspections, rebar verification, and concrete compressive testing ensured structural integrity across all phases. Despite New York’s winter-weather challenges, Magnum achieved zero delays and zero safety incidents, maintaining full compliance with both OSHA and state labor regulations.

Result & Impact
The completed facility now serves as a flagship satellite campus for Westchester Community College, providing both educational infrastructure and housing for the next generation of students and faculty. Magnum’s contribution formed the structural backbone of the development—delivering precision, resilience, and institutional-quality craftsmanship that will serve the community for decades.
